Western Pleasure

When you behave really well in school your teacher might write on your report card that you are “a pleasure to have in class.” Western Pleasure events are kind of like that report card comment. And even though they can’t say “please” or “thank you,” horses are judged on their good manners in this event.

In Western Pleasure, all the horses move around the arena together. Judges call out gaits for walking, jogging, and loping. Winning horses are calm, good listeners who move gracefully and just look as if they are “a pleasure” to ride.

Jack says:

The attire of Western Pleasure events is generally colorful and fun. Riders wear colorful decorated long-sleeved shirts, chaps, cowboy hats, and cowboy boots. You know, the same thing you would like to wear every day!
